Philip George Boggs (born December 29, 1949 in Akron , † July 2, 1990 in Miami ) was an American diver . He dominated artificial jumping in the 1970s, was the first water diver to become three times world champion between 1973 and 1978 and won Olympic gold in 1976.

Boggs won the title in jumping from the 3-meter board at the first world championship officially organized by FINA in Belgrade in 1973. He successfully defended his title in 1975 in Cali and 1978 in Berlin . Boggs was the first diver to become three times world champion and is still the only diver who has won three world championships in artificial jumping from the 3-meter board. Boggs achieved his greatest sporting success at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal . He became the superior Olympic champion in jumping. Boggs was also successful at the Pan American Games. In 1975 he won silver in 3-meter jumping in Mexico City, in 1979 in San Juan he repeated his silver medal and also won his only international medal in diving with bronze from the 10-meter tower. Boggs was a total of nine times American champion.

After studying at the University of Miami , Boggs served in the United States Air Force from 1971 to 1976 . He then studied law at the University of Michigan and worked in Miami. He also appeared as a sports commentator. He was married to Micki King , also a successful water diver and Olympic champion in artificial jumping in 1972 in Munich . Boggs died of lymph gland cancer at the age of 40.
