Philipp Thimm

Philipp Johann Thimm (* 1987 ) is a German multi-instrumentalist , arranger , producer and composer with a creative center in Berlin .

Philipp Thimm received his first further musical education in the field of new music from his music teacher Hans-Peter Schulz, in whose ensemble for experimental music he joined at the age of 15 and in this context, among other things, with the first recording of the work Voice, Books and Fire 3 by Jakob Ullmann contributed. Thimm studied cello at the Leopold Mozart Conservatory in Augsburg from 2005 and electric guitar as a scholarship holder with Peter Wölpl and Michael Kosho Koschorrek at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg from 2007 .

During his studies he accompanied Jonah Matranga as a live cellist on tours and also worked with Jon Lord and the bands The Album Leaf and Get Well Soon . In 2009 he co-founded the Berlin alternative band Abby under the pseudonym "Tilly" , which recorded several EPs and two LPs for Universal Music / Island Records and performed internationally.

In 2010 Thimm moved to Berlin, where he worked as a studio instrumentalist, producer and arranger (mostly for string orchestra) in the music scene and since then has participated in numerous international music productions, including a. in collaboration with David Lemaitre , Ellen Allien , Moderat , Pan-Pot , Casper , Haftbefehl , Kraftklub , The Orsons , Jan Blomqvist and Wallis Bird .

From 2011 he played as a multi-instrumentalist with PC Nackt in its band Warren Suicide and as a live cellist with Apparat (Sascha Ring) and became its permanent instrumental, composition and production partner. In the course of the collaboration with Apparat, several pieces of music for theater, film and LPs were created, including the album LP5 , released in 2019, which was nominated for a Grammy in the category "Best Dance / Electronic Album" in 2020 and received the VUT Indie Award in 2019 . For the score for the Italian film Capri Revolution (2018, directed by Mario Martone ), Ring and Thimm received the David di Donatello Prize , the Soundtrack Stars Award ( Venice International Film Festival ) and the Prize for Best Original Score at the Bari International Film Festival (BIF & ST) awarded.
