The Pichari district is located in the La Convención province of the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on August 7, 1995 from parts of the Kimbiri district . It has an area of 730.45 km². At the 2017 census, there were 22,691 residents in the district. The district administration is located in the town of Pichari located on the east bank of the Río Apurímac at the confluence of the Río Pichari at an altitude of 614 m .
Geographical location
The Pichari district is located in the north-west of the La Convención province. The district extends over a length of about 38 km over the eastern river valley of the Río Apurímac. In the east, the district border runs mainly along the watershed of the northern Cordillera Vilcabamba , which there reaches heights of almost 4000 m . The upper reaches of the Río Quimpiri flows through the northeastern part of the district.
The district of Pichari borders in the north on the district Río Tambo ( province Satipo ) and in the east and southeast on the district Kimbiri . To the west, on the opposite bank of the Río Apurímac, are the districts of Ayna ( La Mar province ), Sivia , Llochegua and Canayre (the last three in Huanta province ).
