The Piz d'Err is 3378.3 m above sea level. M. high mountain in the Albula Alps in the canton of Graubünden in the rear Val d'Err , east of Mulegns and Rona . It is the eponymous node of the Err group . In terms of height, however, it is slightly overlooked by Piz Güglia (Piz Julier) and Piz Calderas .
The Piz d'Err, thanks to its dominance - especially the west - an exceptional panoramic view to the Bernese and Valais Alps ( Schreckhorn , Lauteraarhorn , Eiger , Monk , Finsteraarhorn , Aletschhorn , Dom , Allalinhorn or 150.34 kilometers distant Schwarzenberg Horn ) .
Location and surroundings
The Piz d'Err is the namesake of the Err group in the Err area , which in turn belongs to the Albula Alps . From Piz d'Err branches go south and south-east over the Tschima da Flix to Piz Güglia and Piz Ot , to the east between Albula Pass and Val Bever to Crasta Mora , and to the north the branch of Bergüner Stocks .
Until 2016, the municipal boundary between Tinizong-Rona and Sur ran above the summit ; today the mountain is in the municipality of Surses . The border with Bever is 370 m southeast of the summit. The Piz d'Err is bordered in the north by the Val d'Err , in the southeast by the Val Bever and in the west by the Oberhalbstein .
The neighboring peaks include the Piz Bleis Marscha , the Piz Laviner , the Piz Jenatsch , the Piz Calderas , the Piz Cucarnegl and the Castalegns . In the north-west and east of Piz d'Err there are two small glaciers and in the south-east of Vadret d'Err .
Valley locations are Tinizong, Rona and Sur in Oberhalbstein, and Bever in the Upper Engadin . Frequent starting points are the Chamanna Jenatsch , the Alp Flix and the Alp d'Err.

Origin of name
According to Studer (1896) the word Err comes from the Celtic word err for 'snow'.
v. Planta and Schorta (1979), Schorta (1985) and Schorta (1988), who claim to be strictly scientific, give the documentary mention of Petrus de Erro in 1271 and 1280 , which proves that the Val d'Err valley is permanently inhabited was. However, they state the origin of the name as unknown.
