The Piz Furnatsch ( Rhaeto-Romanic in the idiom Surmiran , derivation from Rhaeto-Romanic furn , German 'oven' , Latin furnus with -atsch from Latin -aceus ) is a mountain between Bergün and Savognin in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland with a height of 2787 m above sea level. M.
Location and surroundings
The Piz Furnatsch belongs to the Bergüner sticks , a subgroup of the Albula Alps . The mountain is located entirely within the municipality of Surses . The Piz Furnatsch is bordered in the south by the Val d'Err and in the north by the Laiets plateau . Towards the south and east it plunges into steep walls, towards the north and west it is easier to walk on.
In the vicinity of Piz Furnatsch there are three small mountain lakes, Lai Grond in the northeast, Lai Mort in the north and an unnamed lake in the northwest.
The neighboring peaks include the Tinzenhorn in the north, Piz Ela , Piz Val Lunga and Piz Salteras in the east, Piz d'Err in the south and Pizza Grossa in the west.
The farthest visible point from Piz Furnatsch is 150 m northwest of the Vincent pyramid in the southern part of Monte Rosa and is 159.7 km away.
The valley location is Tinizong . A frequent starting point is Pensa in the Val d'Err.
Routes to the summit
The easiest way to reach Piz Furnatsch is ½ hour from the Mulde der Laiets over the west ridge or the north-west slope, difficulty WS .
From the Ela hut
- Starting point: Filisur ( 999 m ), Bergün ( 1373 m ) or Ela hut ( 2252 m )
- Via: Pass d'Ela ( 2724 m )
- : Difficulty WS until Laiets B as trail white-red-white highlighted
- Time required: 5½ hours from Filisur, 5 hours from Bergün, 2 hours from the Ela hut or ½ hour from the Pass d'Ela
Through the Val d'Err
- Starting point: Tinizong ( 1232 m )
- Via: Tgant Pensa, Alp Viglia ( 1974 m ), Lai Mort ( 2603 m )

- Time required: 4¾ hours (3¾ hours from Pensa)
- Note: The alpine road from Tinizong into the Val d'Err to Penza is closed to general motor vehicle traffic. However, a hiking bus runs to Penza on Tuesdays and Fridays.
