Platinum Collection (English for. " Platinum Collection ") is a 2004 published collection of the most important pieces from all three decades of career of the British rock band Genesis . After the 1999 Turn It On Again - The Hits , which concentrated exclusively on the single releases, this new compilation should represent a representative cross-section of the Genesis work. 40 pieces from all Genesis studio albums are represented on the 3 CDs with the exception of the debut From Genesis to Revelation . The pieces are arranged from the newest to the oldest, so that by continuously listening to all three parts one moves from the most recent phase to the beginning. An exception is the title track of the 1997 studio record Calling All Stations , which according to this logic should be track 1 on CD 1, but is actually the last track on CD 1.
23 tracks were extensively remixed by Genesis producer Nick Davis . These new versions make the Platinum Collection interesting for fans who already have all the albums on their shelves. Most remixes give the pieces a new depth and richness of detail, which led to some surprises or rediscovery of forgotten or underestimated pieces. Parallel to the 3-CD box set, the DVD The Video Show was released , which presented all of the Genesis promo video clips for the first time on this medium.
Even if the singles and radio-compatible pieces of the commercial phase have a certain preponderance on the first CD, the Platinum Collection certainly lives up to its claim as a complete work show. With this in mind, the accompanying sentence by British music critic Hugh Fielder, printed in the CD booklet, closes: "Maybe this 'Platinum Collection' is as close as it gets to a definitive Genesis album."
