The Powiat Elbląski is a Powiat (district) founded in 1999 in the western part of the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship with the district town of Elbląg (Elbing) . The powiat has around 57,400 inhabitants on an area of ​​1430.55 km².

Geographical location

It encloses the independent city of Elbląg and is itself enclosed by the Powiats Braniewo , Lidzbark , Ostróda and Iława . In the west the border with the Pomeranian Voivodeship runs , while in the northwest there is access to the Baltic Sea via the Gdańsk Bay .

The district area comprises the territory of the former German districts of Elbing and Prussian Holland , which until 1945 belonged to the Prussian province of East Prussia . Before 1920 the district of Elbing belonged to West Prussia , but the district of Prussian Holland belonged to East Prussia.
