President of Serbia
The list of presidents of Serbia includes the heads of state of Serbia as an independent state, i.e. since 2006.
Position of the President
The President of Serbia ( President of the Republic of Serbia , Serbian: Predsednik Republike Srbije ) is directly elected by the people. His term of office is five years. He can remain in office for a maximum of two terms. He can be voted out of office by a two-thirds majority in parliament if the Constitutional Court accuses him of violating the constitution.
It has both representative tasks and political functions. He proposes the Prime Minister (head of government) and can decide on early parliamentary elections at the government's request. He can also refer laws, whose constitutionality he doubts, back to parliament for consideration.
The President's powers are exercised by the Speaker of Parliament in the event of illness, resignation, election or death up to the election of a successor, which must take place within three months.
