Rachim Ruslanowitsch Tschachkijew ( Russian Рахим Русланович Чахкиев ; born January 11, 1983 in Tobolsk , Soviet Union ) is a Russian boxer of Ingushet nationality . He was runner- up in the amateur world championship in 2007 and heavyweight Olympic champion in 2008.
Career
Rachim Tschachkijew comes from Nazran in the Russian republic of Ingushetia . He started boxing as a teenager and was one of the best Russian boxers as a junior. During his time as an amateur boxer, he was a member of the Russian military.
He celebrated his first major success in 2001 when he became European junior light heavyweight champion in Sarajevo . He defeated Yevgeny Biesuglow from Ukraine in the final . In the following years he got in Russia in the junior area in Evgeni Romanow , Denis Boitschuk and Nijas Faidschulin strong competitors, which prevented further assignments from him at international championships.
In 2004 he achieved his first success at the Russian Senior Championships. He fought his way up to the final in the heavyweight division, in which he lost to defending champion Roman Romantschuk . At the Russian championship in 2005 he lost in the semifinals against Yevgeny Romanov and came in third place. He achieved the same result at the Russian championship in 2006. Here he lost in the semifinals against Roman Romantschuk just on points.
In 2005 Rachim Tschachkijew won the heavyweight competition at the Grand Prix tournament in Ústí nad Labem (formerly Aussig ), defeating the German champion Alexander Powernow (21:14) and the Cuban champion Yoan Pablo Hernández (25: 6) on points .
In 2006 he became military world heavyweight champion in Warendorf / Germany . He defeated Michael Bandura from Germany by breaking off in the second round, Yao Wei from China by breaking off in the third round and in the final battle Jasur Matschanow from Uzbekistan by breaking off in the second round. In autumn 2006 he represented Russia at the World Cup in Baku . He was used there three times and won over Hu Wang from China by breaking off in the second round, over Mousra Konate from Africa by breaking off in the first round and over Osmay Acosta from Cuba on points.
The powerful boxer then became the Russian heavyweight champion for the first time in 2007. In the final, he won over his old rival Roman Romantschuk by just a few points (28:25). He was then used at the World Championships in Chicago and aimed there with a demolition victory in the second round over Evan Nedd from Australia and points wins over John Sweeney from Ireland , Elchin Alizade from Azerbaijan (17: 6) and John M'Bumba from France ( 21: 9) towards winning the title. In the final he met Clemente Russo from Italy . He did not succeed in hitting the defensive artist Russo decisively and succumbed to this in a tactically guided, low-impact battle with just 6: 7 hits. Although he was still 6-3 points ahead at the end of the third round, he gave away this apparently clear lead in the last round and thus became Vice World Champion .
Through this success, Rakhim Tschachkijew qualified for participation in the Olympic Games held the following year . In preparation for these games, he fought in February 2008 in two international matches against the USA in Magnitogorsk against the US champion Deontay Wilder and was surprisingly defeated by just a few points (10:11). In the fight in Novosibirsk he met David Carey , whom he defeated by breaking off in the first round. In May 2008 Rachim Tschakchijew won in Almaty in Kazakhstan at the 13th Nurmagambetow Memorial heavyweight in the final against Vasily Levit from Kazakhstan on points.
At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing he achieved his greatest success as an amateur boxer and became an Olympic heavyweight champion. He prevailed against the Iranian Ali Mazaheri , John M'Bumba , who competed for France , the Cuban Osmay Acosta and finally retaliated in the final with a 4-2 point win over Clemente Russo for the defeat at the World Cup the year before.
Professional career
Rachim Tschachkijew has been a professional in the Universum boxing stable in Hamburg since July 2009 and was trained there by Michael Timm. He played his first professional fight on October 10, 2009 in the Rostock town hall against the Bulgarian Tayar Mehmed in the cruiserweight division and he won by knockout in the second round.
On January 28, 2012 Tschachkijew defeated Alexander Kotlobay in Hamburg and thus won the WBC Baltic title. Chachkiev played his first title defense on April 21, 2012 in Schwerin against Jaidon Codrington. He won the fight by knockout in the first round. After two more successful fights, he got the opportunity to fight against Poland's Krzysztof Włodarczyk for the WBC World Championship. The fight took place in Moscow on June 21, 2013 ; Tschachkijew lost, on points at the time of the cancellation in the lead, in the eighth round by technical knockout.
