The Rauischer Hof (also: Gutshof Rauischholzhausen ) is an old manor that occupies large parts of the south-western old settlement area of the municipality of Rauischholzhausen of Ebsdorfergrund ( Marburg-Biedenkopf district , Hesse ). His late Gothic mansion , a three-storey half-timbered building with the turrets typical of its time, is the landmark of the place.

history

For centuries, the estate belonged to the Rau zu Holzhausen family , who had the manor house built in the first half of the 16th century. In 1601 an annex was added to the north corner, the north-west and south-west weather sides were closed off.

In 1873 the estate, along with extensive forests, was sold to Ferdinand Eduard von Stumm , who renovated the buildings and had the park and castle built south of the village .

In 1938 the Stumms sold the estate with a total size of 173 hectares to the William G. Kerkhoff Foundation , which leased it to the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . Initially, the estate was managed by the Institute for Agricultural Management , and from 1948 by the Institute for Plant Breeding as a teaching and experimental farm .

In 1982 the manor house was completely renovated by the University of Giessen.

Today the estate has an area of 144 hectares, 89 hectares of which are arable.
