The Lüneburg is the ruin of a spur castle at 334 m above sea level. NN near the district Mellnau of the city of Wetter in the district of Marburg-Biedenkopf in Hesse .
history
When and by whom the castle was built is not known. Almost 500 meters below the Christenberg there are ramparts and moats of a former castle on a wooded spur . Inside the oval wall there are remains of the foundations that suggest a rectangular building. The outer wall is still partially visible. Ceramic finds from the 11th / 12th centuries Century suggest that it was still inhabited at that time.
annotation
It may have been a predecessor of Mellnau Castle , which was later built in a more favorable location around 1248.
