history

The Nauwe Borg was around 1249 after the destruction of the opposite Burg Blankenstein by the Countess Sophie von Hessen built. Walls and moats can still be seen from the castle .

It is seen as the Hessian counterpart to the Archbishopric-Mainzischen Talburg, Offenhausen Castle in the Salzbödetal near Lohra , since it was not possible to monitor the Salzbödetal from the location of Blankenstein Castle. It was mentioned for the last time at the beginning of the 16th century. The castle is said to have played a major role in the Dernbach feud in securing the Hessian possessions against Nassau . After 1350, Neu-Dernbach Castle assumed the role of a border fortress further west.

description

View from Lammerich (location of Naumburg) over Gladenbach, Mornshausen, Lohra, Damm into the lower Salzbödetal

The oval castle complex has a largest diameter of around 50 meters in a north-south direction and just under 25 meters in an east-west direction. The moat with the remains of an outer rampart system is almost completely preserved. A wall is also assumed inside for protection. To the south, the access to the facility is assumed, still visible today through an embankment in the ditch. According to Wolfgang Becker, a historical researcher from the Salzbödetal who examined the castle complex, there was a palace in the southern part , once again protected by a rampart that is now only flat, while about ten by ten meter remains of foundations in the northern part of the complex were Keep .
