The remains of the Katzenbach hunting lodge can be found in Katzenbach , the smallest district of the municipality of Biedenkopf , in the Hessian district of Marburg-Biedenkopf . The ruins of the hunting lodge stand at a height of 300 meters above sea level and can be reached via the district road 16 from Kombach or via a municipal road from Buchenau .

history

Ludwig V of Hessen-Darmstadt had a hunting lodge built on a 16th century estate , which Landgrave Ernst Ludwig converted into a baroque hunting lodge and renovated in 1724. Until its demolition in 1774, it also served as the official residence of the chief forester . After the demolition, the beams of the manor house were used to build the Stapp House on the market square in Biedenkopf (now the Hirsch Pharmacy ); the white frames of the oval window hatches can still be seen in its gable. Today a small remnant of the foundations of the hunting lodge has been preserved.

architecture

Oil painting by Johann Georg Stockmar

The oil painting by Johann Georg Stockmar (1700–1759) in the Kranichstein Hunting Museum shows a rectangular courtyard, one-story longer farm buildings and stables ( stables ) on the two long sides, which were provided with a gable roof. On one of the narrow sides stood the two-story, seven-to-three-axis mansion with high rectangular windows and a hipped roof , which was surmounted by a crenellated chimney . Opposite was a smaller baroque cavalier house with an almost square floor plan with four to three axes, the mansard hipped roof pierced by dormers with a symmetrical number of axes and a wide flight of stairs at the entrance to the inner courtyard.
