The station Regensburg Hauptbahnhof (main station Regensburg) is the largest train station in the city of Regensburg . Today's main building was completed in 1892 and replaced a previous building a little further south, which was built in 1859 as part of the city's first rail link.

location

The alex in Regensburg Hbf

Regensburg's main train station is located on the southern edge of the old town, near St. Emmeram Castle, in the immediate vicinity of the castle park, which is not freely accessible. There is a taxi rank and the regional bus station in front of the station building, and the central public transport hub Bustreff Albertstraße is a short distance away . The train station offers numerous shopping opportunities; Since the renovation in 2004, the overpass has also opened up the Regensburg Arcaden shopping center south of the train station . There are 177 parking spaces and 300 bicycle spaces on the site.

history

Regensburg received its first rail connection in 1859, when the royal privileged corporation of the Bavarian Eastern Railways connected the Eastern Bavarian metropolis with Nuremberg and Munich. This route was initially led via Amberg . The connection from Regensburg to Passau followed as early as 1860, followed by a direct connection to Nuremberg in 1873, and finally to Ingolstadt in 1874 .

The station building was built between 1857 and 1859 under the direction of the architect Heinrich von Hügel in the line of a southern extension of Maximilianstrasse . In the elongated construction with two clock towers and a five-arched portico, the building was based on models from the Italian Renaissance. Between 1888 and 1892 this station building was replaced by a more representative new building made of clinker stone approx. 100 m further north in the style of the neo-renaissance of the Wilhelminian era . After its destruction in World War II , reconstruction was completed in 1955. In 2004 a comprehensive renovation and redesign took place.

View over the platform and track area

After almost five years of construction, a new central signal box went into operation at the main train station in spring 1988. With the 24 million Deutschmark expensive plant were replaced eight old signal boxes that were set after the end of World War II service. The plans for a new building began in 1981. 180 points and 220 signals from the marshalling yard and the main train station were controlled from the new headquarters for commissioning; the nine-meter-long display board had been prepared for an expansion of the positioning area. For the first time in the area of the former Federal Railroad, the time signal was no longer received by cable, but by long wave from the Mainflingen transmitter .

The marshalling yard immediately to the west, which is structurally connected to the main passenger station, has been closed and is planned for complete demolition.

As part of the immediate seaport hinterland traffic program , the speed at which freight trains can pass through tracks 6 and 7 has been increased from 40 to 80 km / h. To this end, 22 points and around 800 m of track were converted. The measure was completed in January 2014.

For the 2014/15 timetable change, track 101 was reopened as a stump track and serves the trains of the Upper Palatinate Railway.
