The Rixdorf pond and the surrounding area is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein community of Lebrade in the Plön district .

The approximately 112 hectare nature reserve is entered with the number 84 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was expelled in 1974 (date of regulation: March 29, 1974). It is part of the 115 hectare FFH area “NSG Rixdorfer Teiche und Umgebung” and part of the EU bird sanctuary “Ponds between Selent and Plön”. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Plön. The area is looked after by the Naturschutzbund Deutschland, Landesverband Schleswig-Holstein.

The nature reserve is located north of Plön between Rathjensdorf and Lebrade on the edge of the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park in the middle of a landscape characterized by agricultural land . It consists of four sub-areas and places Rixdorfer Teich , Ketelsbekteich, Neue Teich, Rummelteich and Osterwischteich with the respective bank areas and adjacent areas under protection. The nutrient-rich ponds are dammed up fish ponds with underwater vegetation, which are surrounded by wetlands and small areas of poor hay meadows . In some cases, trees and shrubs grow on the banks of the ponds. The fish ponds are extensively managed. Rixdorfer Teich, Ketelsbekteich, Neuer Teich and Rummelsteich are connected by streams. The outflow is the Kossau in the east of the Rixdorf pond.

The ponds are characterized by a rich variety of amphibians . So come here u. a. Fire-bellied toad , northern crested newt , moor and tree frog . The ponds are also essential for breeding and resting waterfowl .
