The nature reserve Lebrade Pond Bird Sanctuary is located in the municipality Lebrade in Plön ( Schleswig-Holstein ), about 7 kilometers north of Plon . The area was declared a nature reserve on June 18, 1938. It is located in the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park and includes the waters and wetlands of the Lebrader Teich as well as some adjacent areas. Only on the south bank (near Lebrader Mühle) is a small area not part of the nature reserve. With a length of around 1.7 kilometers and a width of around one kilometer, the nature reserve has an area of around 144 hectares. It is also designated as FFH area DE-1728-305 NSG bird sanctuary Lebrader Teich and also part of the EU bird protection area DE-1728-401 ponds between Selent and Plön, which encompasses several areas . This makes the area part of the European Natura 2000 network . It is supported by the Naturschutzbund Deutschland , Landesverband Schleswig-Holstein e. V. supervised.

history

The lakes were artificially created in the 17th century as fish ponds by Gut Rixdorf for keeping and breeding carp . Today, the large, very shallow, drainable ponds are still used extensively, stocking with fish no longer takes place. The non-profit Marius Böger Foundation for Nature Conservation and Regional Studies has leased the area. In winter the ponds are drained.

flora

The area consists of natural eutrophic lakes that are of international importance for the protection of migrating water birds. In addition to the lakes, there are silting areas. Characteristic forms of vegetation such as reed beds , willow bushes , wet grassland, swamp forests as well as fens and moor vegetation occur there .

fauna

In the pond area and the silting areas there are numerous breeding birds, some of which are rare, such as gadgets , mute swans and grebes . Furthermore, the amphibians living here such as the moor frog and the fire-bellied toad are particularly worthy of protection.

use

The district road L 53 leads from Lebrade to Sellin through the area. It is not possible to stop on the route, but from here you have a good overview of the nature reserve. An observation post is located in the northern part of the village of Lebrade. From here there is a good opportunity to watch the birds in the area. There is a small information board about the nature reserve and the rare bird species that live here. Since 2013, a new two-story residential building on the north bank has been defacing the otherwise completely undeveloped bank panorama of this biotope. The area is otherwise not accessible by paths.
