The beach landscape near Schmoel is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein communities of Schwartbuck and Stakendorf in the Plön district .

The approximately 50  hectare nature reserve is registered with the number 157 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was expelled at the end of 1990 (date of regulation: December 12, 1990). The nature reserve is part of the FFH area “coastal landscape Bottsand - Marzkamp u. upstream flat grounds "as well as the EU bird sanctuary " Eastern Bay of Kiel ". It borders on the protected landscape area "Ostseeküste between Stakendorfer Strand u. Hohenfelde u. Surroundings". The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Plön.

The nature reserve is located northeast of Kiel . It places a low-lying area on the Kiel Fjord under protection. The land protection dike was removed here to compensate for dike reinforcements on the coast of the provost . The area came under the influence of the Baltic Sea again . Within the reserve there are several flat ground, beach lakes, wet sink and Seggenrieder and brackish water reedbeds and dry grassland areas. To the Baltic Sea, the beach wall and beach as well as a 50 meter wide shallow water area of ​​the Baltic Sea are included in the nature reserve. Large areas between the beach lakes, which were partially used as fields before the protection was placed, are again occupied by trees and bushes. Parts of the reserve are grazed extensively with Angus cattle .

The nature reserve is the habitat of numerous animal and plant species. So here come many Wat - and waterfowl before, including ducks as heron , spoon , Knäk- , Krick- , Pintail , Gadwall and shelduck , Rothals- and little grebe and Gray Goose . Furthermore, u. a. Minke , river and Arctic tern , ringed plover , lapwing , redshank , Sandpiper and Meadow Pipit home. Reeds are u. a. Habitat of Savi , ponds and sedge warbler and reed bunting . Bush stocks offer u. a. Blackcocks and rattle warblers , field owls , bloodlines , carmine pennants , fitis , chiffchaffes and red-backed red- backed killer whales. The area is also used by migratory birds . Eider , common scoter and long- tailed duck overwinter off the coast . Shortly after the land protection dike was razed, vegetation typical of the coast appeared again in the area, including sea ​​kale , sea mustard , sea thistle , sea plantain , chickweed and stonecrop .

The nature reserve, which is surrounded by agricultural land, is looked after by the Schleswig-Holstein regional association of the German Nature Conservation Union . At the edge of the reserve there is a hiking trail from which the nature reserve can be viewed. The Scheidebach flows through the nature reserve in the northwest.
