The Kronswarder and the southeastern part of the Great Inland Lake is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein municipality of Hohwacht in the Plön district .

The 151  hectare nature reserve is registered with the number 154 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was expelled at the end of 1990 (date of regulation: December 13, 1990). The nature reserve is part of the FFH area "Strandseen der Hohwachter Bucht" and the EU bird sanctuary "Eastern Bay of Kiel". It borders on the landscape protection area "Baltic Sea coast in the area of ​​the communities Behrensdorf and Hohwacht, the Great Inland Lake, the lower reaches of the Kossau and the surrounding area". The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Plön.

The nature reserve is located east of Kiel on the Hohwacht Bay . It represents the south-eastern part of the Großer Binnensee , a former bay of the Baltic Sea , part of the mouth of the Kossau and part of the Kronswarder, former river islands which, as a result of the artificial separation of the lake from the Baltic Sea in the second half of the 19th century, with the Spit between the Great Inland Lake and the Baltic Sea have grown together, under protection. The nature reserve is shaped by the Great Inland Lake with its near-natural to natural bank areas. The bank areas are followed by silting zones with extensive reed areas , especially on the Kronswarder . The shore areas in the southeast of the lake border on wooded slopes of the moraine landscape adjoining the lake .

The reed areas in the nature reserve are u. a. Habitat of reed warblers , bearded tits , swirls and the bittern . The reserve is also home to a cormorant colony. The Great Inland Lake is an important feeding, moulting and wintering area for water birds.

The nature reserve is looked after by the Schleswig-Holstein State Association of the Nature Conservation Union of Germany .
