The Kührener pond and the surrounding area is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein communities of Kühren and Wahlstorf in the Plön district .

The 79  hectare nature reserve is registered with the number 172 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was expelled at the end of 1994 (date of regulation: December 21, 1994). The nature reserve is part of the FFH area "Lanker See and Kührener Teich" and the EU bird sanctuary "Lanker See". The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Plön.

The nature reserve is located south of Preetz in an agricultural landscape in Holstein Switzerland . It protects the shallow and cove-rich Kührener pond with its bank areas and the wet grassland adjacent to the pond to the northwest . The nature reserve is bordered to the north by the nature reserve "peninsula and bays in the Lanker See" and is otherwise the conservation area "Lanker See u. the Schwentine to the Kleiner Plöner See u. Surroundings ”.

The approximately 30 hectares and only half a meter deep on average Kührener pond is by extensive reed zones and riparian Bruchwald zones surrounded. There are three tree-lined islands in the pond. The Kührener pond is connected to the slightly north lying Lanker See by a stream . The grassland areas northwest of the Kührener pond were additionally watered in the course of the protection. They are grazed extensively with Galloway cattle for care .

The nature reserve is the habitat of numerous water and meadow birds . Numerous ducks such as gadgets , teal , spoonbills and teal are at home here. Also suitable bittern , pipe and Warbler , Nightingale , nightingale , warbler and marsh harrier and Schwarzhals- and Red-necked Grebe on here. The occurrence of the red-necked grebe is one of the most important in Schleswig-Holstein. The white-tailed eagle uses the area for foraging. Also lapwings , green legs , spotted redshank and wood sandpiper and other wading birds search the area again and again.

In the nature reserve there is an observation hut from which the Kühren pond can be seen, as well as an observation platform from which the wet grassland area can be viewed. Both observation points are on a hiking trail .

In the northeast, the route of the Kiel – Lübeck railway line delimits the nature reserve. The area is looked after by the Schleswig-Holstein regional association of the German Nature Conservation Union .
