Roland is a small town (with the status " City ") in Story County in the US -amerikanischen State Iowa . In 2010 Roland had 1284 inhabitants, the number of which increased slightly to 1289 by 2013.
The city is part of the Ames Metropolitan Statistical Area , a metropolitan area that spans the entire area of Story County.

The place goes back to a group of Norwegian immigrants who settled in the area from 1855. In 1870 a post office was set up on the western edge of today's town. From 1873, the first shops and handicraft businesses were established in the region, which was previously used for purely agricultural purposes. The construction of a railway line for the then Illinois Central Railroad in 1881 and a train station a year later increased the growth of the settlement. Roland was incorporated as an independent municipality in 1891.
In 1897 the city was connected to the telephone network; Since 1911, Roland has been supplied with electricity from neighboring Story City. In 1919 a sewer system was built.
The Roland Town Hall was built in 1935 as part of a job creation scheme as part of the New Deal .
