Heinrich Rudolf Ferdinand August Alexander von Horn (born June 18, 1798 in Danzig ; † May 20, 1863 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Rudolf was a son of the later Prussian Lieutenant General Heinrich Wilhelm von Horn (1762-1829) and his second wife Regine Marie Elisabeth Wilhelmine, née von Raabe (1768-1800).

Military career

At the beginning of the Wars of Liberation , Horn visited the cadet house in Berlin and was then transferred to the Prussian Army's 8th Infantry Regiment at the end of April 1815 as a second lieutenant . With the regiment he took part in the battles at Ligny and Wavre and the occupation of the French capital during the summer campaign. Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class and the Order of St. Vladimir IV. Class, Horn was appointed adjutant of the Magdeburg Landwehr Inspection on April 23, 1816 after the war . From the end of March 1818 he was adjutant of the troop brigade in Münster for two years . Subsequently transferred to the adjutantage, Horn was promoted to adjutant of the 16th Infantry Brigade in Trier and on March 30, 1822 to prime lieutenant. Four years later he was transferred to Erfurt as adjutant of the 8th Division stationed there and Horn was promoted to captain in March 1827 . Left in this position, he was aggregated to the 32nd Infantry Regiment on March 30, 1830, and on March 30, 1831, he was transferred to the 27th Infantry Regiment as a company commander . From March 30, 1837 to July 27, 1841, he was employed in Jülich as a major and commander of the 2nd battalion in the 25th Landwehr Regiment. Subsequently transferred to the 29th Infantry Regiment , Horn was initially commander of the 1st and from mid-May 1846 of the Fusilier Battalion. On March 27, 1847, he rose to lieutenant colonel and on May 13, 1848, he was charged with leading the 36th Infantry Regiment . Shortly thereafter, on July 6, 1848, he was appointed commander of the 25th Infantry Regiment . At the same time, Horn was also entrusted with running the business as the commandant of Bonn from autumn 1848 to spring 1849 . With a mobile column consisting of infantry, cavalry and artillery, he restored order in the districts of Wittlich , Bitburg and Prüm . In 1849 Horn led his regiment in the suppression of the Baden Revolution in the battles near Rastatt and Kuppenheim . Grand Duke Leopold then awarded Horn the Knight's Cross of the Military Karl Friedrich Order of Merit . On November 19, 1849 he was promoted to colonel . From May 14, 1850 to April 16, 1851 he acted as commander of the 40th Infantry Regiment and then until April 14, 1852 as the commander of Minden . Then Horn became the commander of the 12th Infantry Brigade . In the same capacity he was from May 4, 1852 in the 24th Infantry Brigade and on March 22, 1853 major general . family

Horn had married Berta Renate von Reckow (1799-1845) on August 8, 1827 in Düsseldorf. She was the daughter of the later Prussian Lieutenant General Eduard von Reckow . The marriage produced four children: the later Prussian major general Rudolf Karl Wilhelm (1833–1905) and Karl Wilhelm († 1874). In addition, Thekla († 1879) married to a major German and Ida († 1889) married to Colonel von Asmuth.
