Rupert Stamm (born October 8, 1963 ; † November 23, 2014 ) was a German jazz musician ( vibraphone , percussion ) and music teacher.

Life

Stamm studied at the Academy for Tonkunst in Darmstadt and vibraphone with David Friedman at the University of the Arts in Berlin. He worked with various jazz and rock bands, orchestras and ensembles for new music.

In 1991 he founded the group Zabriskie Point with Jochen Krämer , with whom he appeared at festivals and on the radio and recorded five albums. For almost two decades, the band included Matthias Bergmann , Kai Brückner , Helmuth Faß , Sebastian Gramss , Johannes Gunkel , Hartmut Hillmann , Jörg Kaufmann , Christian Kögel , Robert Landfermann , Werner Lauscher , Oliver Leicht , Daniel Mattar , Alexander Morsey , Werner Neumann , André Neygenfind , Angelika Niescier , Joscha Oetz , Sebastian Räther , Stefan Scheib , Michael Schiefel , Kristiina Tuomi , Claudius Valk , Felix Wahnschaffe , Andreas Walter , Konstantin Wienstroer and Frank Wingold .

In the Romanesque Summer Cologne 2005, Stamm participated with the project Xylon for four marimba and flugelhorn (with Tom van der Geld , Taiko Saitō , Franz Bauer and Klaus Osterloh ). He also played in a duo with the clarinetist François de Ribaupierre , since 2008 also in a duo with the pianist Laia Genc and in a duo with his instrumental colleague Taiko Saitō.

Stamm worked on musical and radio play productions and was a lecturer at the University of Cologne and teacher at the Dorothea Schlözer School in Lübeck. He died at the age of 51.
