Ruth Reinhardt

Ruth Reinhardt (* 1988 in Saarbrücken ) is a German conductor . She completed her studies in Zurich, Leipzig and New York City. Since 2018 she has been working as a freelance conductor with various orchestras in Europe and the United States. At the end of 2020 she was appointed Saarland ambassador.

Life

Ruth Reinhardt was born in Saarbrücken. She attended the Waldorf School in the Altenkessel district of Saarbrücken until she graduated from high school. She received violin lessons at the age of six , and the oboe was added later. She sang in the children's choir of the Saarland State Theater and played in several orchestras and from the age of 12 chamber music in a string quartet . At the age of 15 she took part in a music workshop in France as an oboist in a youth orchestra. However, since she could not play her instrument because of a cold, she tried to conduct Franz Schubert's 6th Symphony and discovered her talent for this profession.

At the age of 17 she composed a children's opera based on the book Das kleine Gespenst by Otfried Preußler , which was performed in the Alte Feuerwache in Saarbrücken- St. Johann and conducted by herself.

Education

After graduating from high school, Reinhardt studied violin with Rudolf Koelman at the Zurich University of the Arts and began training as a conductor with Constantin Trinks , the former conductor of the Saarland State Theater. In Zurich, she conducted the premieres of two chamber operas for children: The Little Mermaid by Swiss composer Michal Muggli and Wassilissa by German composer Dennis Bäsecke. From Zurich she moved to the music academy in Leipzig , where she worked, for example, on the production of Johann Strauss' Fledermaus . She then received a scholarship to the Juilliard School of Music in New York City . There she obtained her master's degree in conducting with Alan Gilbert , who was then chief conductor of the New York Philharmonic and is now chief conductor of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra .

After completing her studies, Ruth Reinhard stayed in the United States for several years . In the 2015/2016 season she worked with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and then as assistant conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Jaap van Zweden . During this time she achieved her musical breakthrough when she stepped in for the conductor Stanisław Skrowaczewski who was sick .

Reinhardt has been working as a freelance conductor since 2018, primarily in the United States and Europe. In the 2017/2018 season she conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic , in the summer as Assistant Conductor at the Lucerne Festival Academy. In the following season she conducted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Stockholm , the Great Orchestra Graz and the Norwegian Kristiansand Symfoniorkester for the first time. In the season 2019/20 she conducted, among others, the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin , the Radio Symphony Orchestra in Frankfurt as well as in the United States, the orchestra in Detroit , Indianapolis , Baltimore , Houston , Los Angeles and Saint Paul (Minnesota) .

In June 2020 she took part in the concert series Stage @ Seven of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and conducted, among other things, the Kleine Nachtmusik by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the Holberg Suite by Edvard Grieg . In the Stage @ Seven series , which was created due to the Corona requirements, Hessischer Rundfunk broadcast live concerts Monday to Friday at 7 p.m. on the websites and social media channels of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Frankfurt Radio Big Band . Ruth Reinhard was appointed Saarland ambassador in November 2020.

According to her own statements, her musical preferences are Slavic or Hungarian music, late classical and early romantic as well as the music of the 20th century. Reinhardt frequently conducts works by Antonín Dvořák , Franz Liszt and Hector Berlioz .
