His mother Elisabeth Sieg, who later worked as a psychological psychotherapist, taught recorder at the State Youth Music School in Hamburg ; his grandfather Heinrich Paff directed a chamber orchestra. He grew up with his older siblings Katrin (now a theater scholar at Georgetown University, Washington, DC) and Sönke (now musical director on a cruise ship of the Hamburg shipping company TUI Cruises ) in Elmshorn. Sören Sieg learned languages at an early age, started school at the age of five, skipped a class as a highly gifted person and, at the age of 17, completed his Abitur at the Elmshorn Gymnasium Elsa-Brändström -Schule in 1984 .

He got into music at an early age, learned to play music at preschool age and later to play several musical instruments such as recorder, violin, guitar, saxophone, trumpet and drums. In addition, Sieg began to write early, wrote his “first novel” about a family's journey to the moon at the age of six, later wrote for the Rote Elsa , the school newspaper of the Elsa Brändström School, and - after graduating from high school - from 1984 to 1986 for the taz . In 1983 he received second prize in the Hamburg Steinway music competition . In 1985, Sieg met the Dutch composer and pianist Ronald Poelman in the workshop for jazz, rock and new music in Hamburg , who encouraged him to compose and with whom he played in a duo for two years (Poelman: piano, Sieg: saxophone) and gave concerts . Sieg wrote numerous pieces for this line-up. In 1986, together with some like-minded people, he founded the Deserters , who together totally refused military service , including alternative service . From 1986 to 1991 he first studied politics, sociology, history and philosophy at the universities in Hamburg and Bielefeld . He financed his studies as a piano accompanist and toured Germany with Monty Arnold , Annette Mayer, Lilli Walzer , Joe Luga and many others.

Sieg then switched to studying music and studied piano, composition and drums at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg from 1991 to 1996 . There he met fellow students Jan Melzer, Tobias Hanf and Stefanie Hoffmann, with whom he founded the a cappella quartet LaLeLu in 1994 . The four-member a cappella comedy group, in which Sieg took part as a tenor singer and moderated as the “head of the group”, soon became known nationwide and had numerous appearances in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. LaLeLu gave around 130 concerts a year, won numerous awards, had several television and radio appearances and released several CDs .

The roughly 200 stories were well received by readers, and a collection of selected columns was published in book form in both 2010 and 2012.
