Saint-Andiol is a French municipality with 3247 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .
geography
The municipality is located eight kilometers west of Cavaillon and 12 kilometers northeast of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence .
In the north the municipality borders on Noves and Cabannes , in the east on Plan-d'Orgon , in the south on Mollégès , in the west on Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and again on Noves and in the north-west on Verquières .
history
When Arelate became a colony in the 3rd century , the Saint-Andiol area was part of it. Later, the village was probably built around an unknown religious place dedicated to Saint-Andiol .
The original name of the village was Andeol . It appeared under the name Saint-Andéol in the 17th century . It can therefore be assumed that today's name is still relatively young.
