Maillane is a municipality with 2582 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in southern France in the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône in Arrondissement Arles in the canton of Saint-Remy-de-Provence . The municipality is part of the Terre de Provence municipal association .
Geographical location
The place is located 15 kilometers south of Avignon , seven kilometers northwest of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and three kilometers southeast of Graveson northwest of the Alpilles mountain range . It is 60 kilometers to the beaches of the Camargue or the Côte Bleue .
history
When cholera raged in Provence in 1854 , residents of the village undertook a procession in honor of the Virgin Mary on August 18 . Then the epidemic came to an end. Since then, a procession has taken place every year, during which the statue “Notre Dame de Grâce” is carried in memory of the miracle around the village.

Description of the coat of arms : The silver majuscules JHS are set in red with a silver cross in the middle and five silver passion nails are hammered into the base of the shield .
The letters are interpreted as "Jesus hominum Salvator", ie "Jesus, savior of men".
