Orgon is a French municipality with 3453 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .

geography

The municipality is located in the northeast of the Bouches-du-Rhône department near the Durance river . It is located five kilometers southwest of Cavaillon and 24 kilometers southeast of Avignon . The D99 ( Saint-Rémy -Cavaillon) and the D7 N (Avignon- Aix-en-Provence ) cross in the village .

history

Around 550 BC, farmers began to settle here. In the 13th century, the Templars settled in the region drained the swamps that existed at that time. The community, originally just an evacuation of orgone , grew rapidly in the second half of the 19th century. On July 27, 1923, after several attempts, orgone was separated.

traffic

The place is known for the large intersection in its center, where the highway from Avignon to Aix-en-Provence and the departmental road from Saint-Rémy to Cavaillon cross.
