Sam R. Bratton

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sam R. Bratton (* 1864 , † 1936 ) was an American politician . Between 1929 and 1931, he was the de facto lieutenant governor of the state of Tennessee as President of the State Senate , even if this office was not formally introduced until 1951.

The sources on Sam Bratton are very poor. What is certain is that he lived in Tennessee at least temporarily and was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1929 he became a member and president of the State Senate and thus deputy to Governor Henry Hollis Horton . He thus actually held the office of lieutenant governor. This post was or is constitutionally anchored in most other states; in Tennessee this has only been the case since 1951. After that, Bratton was no longer politically active. He died in 1936.
