Blan R. Maxwell

Blan R. Maxwell (born January 2, 1899 in Osceola , Arkansas , †  October 15, 1943 in Centerville , Tennessee ) was an American politician . Between 1939 and 1943 he was the de facto lieutenant governor of the state of Tennessee as President of the State Senate , even if this office was not formally introduced until 1951.

Career

After studying law and being admitted to the bar, Blan Maxwell began working in the profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He became a member of the Tennessee Senate, of which he was president from 1939 until his death. In this capacity he was Deputy Governor Prentice Cooper . He thus actually held the office of lieutenant governor. This post was or is constitutionally anchored in most other states; in Tennessee this has only been the case since 1951. Blan Maxwell died on October 15, 1943 in a plane crash en route from Nashville to Memphis . He was buried in Memphis.
