James L. Bomar

James LaFayette Bomar (born July 1, 1914 in Raus , Bedford County , Tennessee , †  June 25, 2001 in Bedford County, Tennessee) was an American politician . Between 1963 and 1965, he served as President of the State Senate and was Vice-Governor of the State of Tennessee.

Career

James Bomar attended public schools in his home country including Shelbyville High School . After a subsequent law degree at Cumberland University and his admission as a lawyer in 1937, he began to work in Shelbyville in 1940 in this profession. During the final stages of World War II , he served in the United States Navy .

Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1943 and 1944, from 1949 to 1950 and again from 1953 to 1963, he sat in the Tennessee House of Representatives , of which he was president from 1953 to 1955. He was also a member of the State Senate from 1947 and 1948 and from 1963 to 1965, of which he had been President since 1963. In this capacity, he also served as Lieutenant Governor of his state and Deputy to Governor Frank G. Clement . Bomar was also a member of numerous associations and organizations. He died on June 25, 2001.
