from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Edward T. Seay ( 1868 - August 19, 1941 ) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1905 he was the de facto lieutenant governor of the state of Tennessee as President of the State Senate , although this office was not formally introduced until 1951.

Career

Edward Seay lived at least temporarily in Gallatin , Sumner County . After studying law and becoming a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He was elected three times in a row to the Tennessee Senate, where he represented Sumner County. Between 1903 and 1905 he was president of this body.

In that capacity, he was Deputy Governor James B. Frazier . He thus actually held the office of lieutenant governor. This post was or is constitutionally anchored in most other states; in Tennessee this has only been the case since 1951. He later practiced as a lawyer again. He died on August 19, 1941.
