The district of Santiago de Pischa is located in the province of Huamanga in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. The district has an area of 93.2 km². The 2017 census counted 1515 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 895, in 2007 it was 1467. The district administration is located in the 3188 m high village of San Pedro de Cachi with 227 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Pedro de Cachi is located 20 km west-northwest of the provincial and regional capital Ayacucho (Huamanga).
Geographical location
The district of Santiago de Pischa is located in the Andean highlands in the northwest of the province of Huamanga. The Río Cachi flows in a right curve around the district and thus limits it to the west, north and northeast.
The district of Santiago de Pischa borders in the southwest with the district Santo Tomás de Pata , in the west with the district San Antonio de Antaparco , in the northwest with the district Julcamarca and in the northeast with the district Chincho (all the districts mentioned belong to the Angaraes province ). In addition, the district borders on the district of San José de Ticllas in the southeast and in the south .
