Sandy Martin (born March 3, 1949 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American actress .

life and career

Sandy Martin began her acting career at the age of 15 when she toured the United States with Martha Raye in the play Good-bye Charley . She still has a long career as a stage actress in New York City and Los Angeles. In 2011 she played the lead role of Bella in a production of Tennessee Williams ' A House Not Meant to Stand .

Since her film debut in Scalpel - Bloody Mirror Image in 1977, Martin has stood in front of the camera in over 130 film and television productions. In the 1980s and 1990s she played only minor film roles and was a guest actress in series such as Lou Grant , Falcon Crest , Matlock and Emergency Room to see. In 2000 she played the role of gossip columnist Louella Parsons in the German film production company Marlene . Martin herself said in an interview that her Hollywood career only got a rather late boost in 2004 through the portrayal of her grandmother in the hit film Napoleon Dynamite .

Since then, the character actress has mainly been cast in the role of the eccentric older woman, many of her characters appear grumpy, rabid or even disgusting. Her better-known roles include Selma Green , a Mormon woman who disguises herself as a man, in the series Big Love between 2007 and 2011. Since 2006 she has been in the comedy series It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia in a recurring role as the mother of Rob McElhenneys Figure Mac to see. In 2017, Martin played the dominant mother of the Sam Rockwell- impersonated cop in Martin McDonagh's Oscar-winning film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri .
