Santa Ana is a city in Southern California , about 70 kilometers southeast of Los Angeles . According to the last census in 2010, the population was 324,792. Santa Ana is the administrative seat of Orange County .

Indigenous members of the Tongva and Juaneño / Luiseño lived in the area before the whites. The Tongva called the area around Santa Ana "Hotuuk".
After the Gaspar de Portolás expedition from Mexico City in 1769 , Junípero Serra named the area Vallejo de Santa Ana (Valley of St. Anne ). On November 1st, 1776, the San Juan Capistrano Mission was built in this valley. Santa Ana is located on the area of the former Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana, which José Antonio Yorba received from the Spanish government in Mexico City in 1810. After the US victory in the Mexican-American War , the land around Santa Ana fell to the United States. The city of Santa Ana was founded in 1869 by William H. Spurgeon of Kentucky . He had bought the land for this from the Yorba family. After the area became a city in 1886 with a population of 2000 people, it became the capital of Orange County in 1889. The liberal daily newspaper Orange County Register is published in Santa Ana.
During the Second World War , the Santa Ana Army Air Base was built, a training center for the United States Army Air Forces . The base led to an influx of people and an increase in the population.

Demographics
According to the 2010 census , 324,528 people lived in the city, making it the ninth largest city in California . Nevertheless, the population decreased by four percent compared to 2000 (the 2000 census was just under 338,000 inhabitants). More than 78 percent of the urban population are of Hispanic or Latin American descent, known as Latinos . This means that Santa Ana has a much higher proportion of this population group than the state of California or the USA as a whole. However, high proportions of Latinos are not uncommon, especially in southern California. The proportion of whites (excluding Latinos) was 9.2 percent in 2010. In 1970 it was 69 percent. African Americans and Asians are also minorities. The number of households was 73,174. For every 100 women there were 104.6 men, while the median age was 29.1 years.
climate
The region's climate is strongly influenced by its proximity to the Pacific . Due to the balancing effect of the ocean, the temperature remains well in the plus range even in winter. The mean minimum temperature in December and January is just under 10 degrees, but can reach 20 degrees. Due to the southern location in California, the summers are always warm, temperatures around 30 degrees are common. Occasionally the thermometer can climb over 40 degrees. The precipitation in the form of rain focuses primarily on the winter months. It rarely rains from June to September. The annual rainfall is 346 mm. Southern California is considered a sunny region, so an average of 279 days of sunshine can be expected per year.
