Monument on the street Ellingen-Schönwerder

In 1806 the Prussian army fled north after the lost battle of Jena and Auerstedt. On October 28, 1806, the troops consisting of 10,000 men surrendered to the French in Prenzlau. Only one troop led by Prince August (a nephew of Friedrich II. ), Consisting of about 240 men, had not received the news of the surrender . Therefore there was a battle between the Prussians and the French between Ellingen and Schönwerder. They fought until the Prussians ran out of ammunition. In 1841, the district administrator of the Prenzlau district had a granite cross built to commemorate this battle. On the front the inscription " The warriors who succumbed here under the leadership of a heroic prince after brave resistance praised by the enemy himself, worthy of a better fate, " was engraved and on the reverse " October 8th, 1806 ".
