The battle gallery (French gallery des batailles ) is a large hall in the south wing of the Palace of Versailles , the so-called prince's wing . It is located on the first floor on the palace park side and, with its central glass roof in the form of a barrel vault, extends into the attic floor . Round windows are installed on both sides of the wall above the transom . King Louis Philippe's concern was to honor France's great military victories. Four apartments of the royal family had to give way for this conversion.

The hall is two floors high, 120 meters long and 13 meters wide and contains 33 large-format wall paintings and 82 busts of famous military leaders. The paintings depict around 14 centuries of French history. In particular, victorious kings and famous generals can be seen on the battlefields. The period shown in the pictures begins in 496 with Clovis I in the painting Battle of Zülpich by Ary Scheffer and extends to the Battle of Wagram in 1809 under Napoléon .

The gallery is preceded by the so-called prince's staircase, which leads to the prince's court and has direct access to the hall 1792 . This room is named after the paintings that decorate it. He was under Louis XVI. also called Salle des Cent Suisses (Hall of the Hundred Swiss). The other side of the gallery is flanked by Hall 1830 and is used for guided tours. At the back of the battle gallery is the stone gallery .

The opening of the room on June 10, 1837 coincided with the opening of the Musée de Versailles .
