The Schlick is a 5 km long valley head in the Stubai Alps around the Schlickeralm ( 1643  m ) between the Kalkkögeln ( Schlicker Seespitze , 2804  m ) and the Stubai Valley in Tyrol ( Austria ). The Schlickerbach rises in the Schlick and flows into the Ruetz in Fulpmes .

history

From the 14th to the 16th century, iron and gold were mined in the Schlick (first mention of a hammer on Schlickerbach in 1352). In addition to the early local ironmongery industry , the iron was traded on by peddlers . When the resources were exhausted in the 16th century, they switched to blacksmithing. As a result, Fulpmes has remained an industrial center ( Stubai brand ) to this day .

Schlick 2000 ski area

Schlick 2000
Kreuzjochbahn

The Schlick 2000 ski area is located in the Schlick . The first Schlick cable car was built in 1959 with a single chair lift. The lift led from Fulpmes to the area of today's middle station around the Froneben Alm . A year later, another single chair lift was built on the Sennjoch . Another year later, the Galtalm lift , which is still in use today, was built. In 1973 the two-seater chairlift followed on the Kreuzjoch and in 1977 the panorama restaurant at the same place. In 1988 the single chair lift to the Sennjoch was replaced by a four-person chair lift.

Today a gondola lift in two sections (built in 1993 & 1995) transports winter sports enthusiasts up to the 2105  m high Kreuzjoch. There is a 4-seater chairlift and four surface lifts at the foot of the Kalkkögel , with a transport capacity of 8500 people per hour. 75% of the 25 kilometers of slopes (16 km easy, 8 km medium, 1 km difficult) can be covered with snow. There is also a 2 km long ski route from the mountain station to the Schlickeralm. Since the 2.6 km long valley run was built in 2006, the Schlick has the longest valley run that can be snow-covered in the Stubai Valley. At the beginning of the 2007 season, Schlick was the first ski area in Tyrol to introduce the Skiline system , which enables skiers to save and evaluate the altitude they have climbed . For the 2013/14 season, the two Zirmach lifts will be replaced by a 6-seater chairlift. In 2017, the fixed-grip 4-seater chairlift Panoramabahn of the Patscherkofelbahn ski area was acquired and set up as the Panoramabahn Kreuzjoch ; this replaces the Kreuzjoch tow lift.

The 6 km longest descent in the area leads from the Sennjoch past the Schlickeralm and the middle station to the valley station and overcomes 1240 meters in altitude. The most difficult slope is the so-called Zirbenschuss , which overcomes an altitude of 289 meters over one kilometer. A speed track is also available on the descent from the Sennjoch.

Other sports

The Niedere and the Hohe Burgstall are popular destinations for ski tourers who can reach the two peaks of the Kreuzjoch in around 2 hours.

A toboggan run leads from the Froneben middle station to the Kreuzjochbahn valley station. The route has been illuminated since 2008 and is also available for night tobogganers. There is also a toboggan run that leads from the Vergör-Alm to the valley station.

In the area of the Schlickeralm there is a 3.5 km long high-altitude trail available for cross-country skiers . In the Schlickerboden area, it leads through larch and spruce forests with a height difference of 75 m. Due to its altitude, the trail is very snow-sure.

Overview of the lifts

Currently (ski season 2017/2018) [outdated] the Schlick 2000 includes 2 gondola lifts, 3 chair lifts, 3 drag lifts and 1 pommel lift.

Expansion plans

The long-sought and controversial connection with the Axamer Lizum can not be implemented due to the Kalkkögel quiet area, according to the Tyrolean state government in March 2015.

A feeder lift is planned (as of November 2017) as a gondola lift from Neustift in the Stubai Valley with the valley station between Neustift and Neder, the middle station in the Kaserstattalm area and the mountain station in the Sennjoch area. The costs are estimated at 19 million euros. A ski run into the "Goldsutte" is to be built. A very similar project was dropped in 1985 after a negative assessment by the Innsbruck-Land district administration; There it was stated that "opening up [...] would mean extremely serious and irreversible damage to the natural balance and the landscape and is therefore strictly to be rejected", and "due to the extreme steepness, the constant landslides and the frequent danger of avalanches, the massive encroachments on the natural environment would be disproportionate to the benefit ”. The Innsbruck Alpine Club sees the development of the “Goldsutte” as a preliminary step to “building a bridge” with the Axamer Lizum.

Summer tourism

Stubaiblick viewing platform

Around the Schlick there are around 65 km of hiking trails of all levels of difficulty, some of which can be reached with the Kreuzjochbahn, which is also operated in summer. Several themed trails, such as the panorama trail from the mountain station to the StubaiBlick , a viewing platform with a view of the Kalkkögel as well as the Wilder Kaiser and the Zillertal , an alpine flora trail, an adventure trail and an adventure park are offered to hikers in summer.

Huts and alpine pastures

Starkenburger Hut below the Hohen Burgstall

In the Schlick area there are many huts and alpine pastures that can be reached from the Kreuzjochbahn or from the Stubai Valley . The ascent to the Starkenburger Hut ( 2237  m, starting point Fulpmes , Neustift or the mountain station of the Kreuzjochbahn) is part of the Stubai High Trail and a much-trodden path. In the valley basin is the Schlickeralm ( 1645  m ), which is a popular base for tours on the Kalkkögel . In the immediate vicinity of the Alm there is also the panorama lake, which is used to make snow on the slopes in winter and is a popular destination for families in summer. Other alpine pastures in the Schlick area are the Sennjochhütte , the Fronebenalm , the Galtalm and the Brugger Alm . With the exception of the Starkenburger Hütte, all huts are in the Schlick 2000 winter sports area. The Pfarrachalm , Kaserstattalm and Vergör-Alm can also be reached quickly from the Schlick. The Oberbergtal and the Franz-Senn-Hütte can be reached via the Schlicker Scharte , while the Adolf-Pichler-Hütte is accessible via the Alpenklubscharte .

Mountain peaks

All the peaks of the Kalkkögel can be climbed from the Schlick . The most popular tours are the Schlicker Seespitze ( 2804  m ), the via ferrata over the Große and Kleine Ochsenwand ( 2700  m & 2553  m ), the Steingrubenkogel ( 2633  m ), the Marchreisenspitze ( 2620  m ) and the Ampferstein ( 2556  m ). The Niedere and Hohe Burgstall ( 2436  m & 2611  m ) can be reached via the Sennjoch , from where there is an outstanding panoramic view of the Oberbergtal , the Stubaital , the Serleskamm and the Schlick.

Schlickeralmlauf

Since 1989 the Schlickeralmlauf has taken place every year starting from Telfes in the Stubai , which leads over the Plövner Loch to the Schlickeralm (normal route) or further over the Zirmachalm to the Kreuzjoch (Masters World Championship route). The 11.5 km long route has an altitude difference of 1100 m and is considered by professional runners to be one of the most beautiful but also most demanding tests in the World Cup. In 2013, the destination was moved from Sennjoch to the mountain station of the Kreuzjochbahn, which reduced the number of meters in altitude from 1310 to 1100. The short route is 7.5 km long and overcomes 650 meters in altitude. On the sidelines of the main run, there are other events the day before, such as a race specially organized for children, a charity run and the Telfer Wiesen Run cross-country run .
