Seiwa Genji
The Seiwa Genji ( Japanese 清和 源氏 ) were the most successful and powerful branch of the many family branches of the Minamoto clan. Many of the most famous Minamoto warriors, such as Minamoto no Yoritomo , founder of the Kamakura Shogunate , descended from this line. The family is named after the Emperor Seiwa , the grandfather of Minamoto no Tsunemoto , the patriarch of the Seiwa Genji.
