The 2000/01 season of Serie B started on September 3, 2000 and ended on 10 June 2001. The AC Turin , Piacenza Calcio and AC Venice managed three clubs in the direct promotion to the Serie A . All four league newcomers managed to stay in the league. Relegated Ravenna Calcio was refused the license for the C1 series due to financial problems , dissolved and then re-established in the sixth highest division. The top scorer was Nicola Caccia from Piacenza Calcio with 23 goals this season.
