Familiarity to younger audiences became Schmitt as a producer and director of the ProSiebenSat.1 Media on the online video portal MyVideo launched live streams Let's Play Together with Gronkh (Erik Range) and Sarazar (Valentin Rahmel). The live stream regularly reached over 65,000 viewers. While he was initially addressed by his first name, the pseudonym SgtRumpel or Rumpel later prevailed. The name came about by chance and just for fun at first. In games with friends in the game Left 4 Dead , opponents who had been eliminated by Schmitt were furiously calling out the name Rumpel . At the end of 2014, the live stream with Range, Rahmel and Schmitt was discontinued after 100 episodes and continued with Fabian Siegismund and David Hain from March 2015.

On September 4, 2012 he published the first Let's Play on his YouTube channel for the game Orcs Must Die! . On the occasion of the 100,000th subscriber, Schmitt published the short film Fortbildung Elf, which he produced, on his YouTube channel . The typical slogan for SgtRumpel, for example on his YouTube channel, Facebook account or his homepage, is “Stand comfortably!” .

On March 1, 2013 Schmitt appeared together with other representatives of the Let's Play genre in the live stream Last Man Standing , organized by MyVideo , in which he and his team played various computer games for over eight hours against PietSmiet's Hard Reset . The live stream had a total of more than a million viewers. This program was moderated by Nela Panghy-Lee .

On November 30, 2013, Last Man Standing continued as Last Man Standing 2 . Again he and his team, consisting of Gronkh, Sarazar, DebitorLP, Fabian Siegismund and David Hain, competed against the PietSmiet team. In contrast to the first show, there were viewers who could take part in the show as wildcard winners for their preferred team. This edition was also moderated by Lee, supported by Daniel Budiman and Simon Krätschmer . The live stream was broadcast on MyVideo.de.

In July 2014 he founded his Twitch channel. He was supported in the early days of his friends o_Ossel / Osselminator and silver nitrate , which already in some previously on YouTube Let's Play videos participated by Schmitt. Usually the stream took place every Thursday evening. The streams were recorded by Schmitt and later uploaded to his YouTube channel.

On the occasion of his 2000th video on YouTube, Schmitt uploaded a video on his channel in which he published a summary of his two and a half years on YouTube. Furthermore, he also drew conclusions. So he announced that he wanted to limit his Let's Play activities and would like to concentrate on his Twitch stream. He also announced a new section called Unnawegs , in which he publishes travel videos or short reports on current events. The first of these videos was released on August 24, 2015.

At Gamescom 2015 , the program Last Man Standing 3 followed under the motto Generations . This is based on the fact that YouTubers from the previous Last Man Standing issues like Gronkh or PietSmiet did not participate, but a number of young, aspiring YouTubers like HandOfBlood . The show was moderated by Fabian Siegismund and David Hain. A change to the previous show was the inclusion of a studio audience. The livestream was broadcast again on MyVideo.de.

At the beginning of February 2016, the SgtRumpel channel reached 200,000 subscribers. In addition, the channel cracked the 25 million view mark.

Since mid-October 2016, a format has been appearing at the end of the day that represents a kind of spontaneous and slimmed-down version of Unnawegs . The VLogs are recorded during a motorcycle ride. Schmitt also comments on the scenery or specifically addresses topics.

In August 2018, Schmitt announced on his website that he would cease his regular activities on the Twitch streaming platform. After he had already drastically reduced or discontinued the Let's Play genre on his YouTube channel, the decoupling of Let's Play and live entertainment was completed with the withdrawal of Twitch. With Âlendia, YouTube and his blog on his website, he offers a new product portfolio.
