The Sponheimer Lettkaut is a nature reserve in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The approximately 16 hectare area is located in the Sponheim community in the Rüdesheim association .

It is placed under protection "because of its geological nature, as a habitat of rare wild plant species that are threatened in terms of their existence and of threatened animal species as well as for scientific reasons."

The Lettkaut was used in the past centuries to mine clay for surrounding communities such as Bockenau , Münchwald and Spabrücken . From 1902 to 1918 a siding of the Kreuznacher Kleinbahn ran from the Daubacher Brücke stop to the clay pits. After the clay quarrying was abandoned, the pits filled with water and rare amphibians such as the midwife toad and orchids such as the marsh orchid settled .
