Nature reserve Gans and Rheingrafenstein (May 2017)

The Gans und Rheingrafenstein nature reserve is located in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The approximately 200 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1985 , extends east of the former town of Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg, which has now been incorporated into Bad Kreuznach . The Nahe flows on the western edge of the area, and the B 48 runs not far to the west . In the area are the 321.7 m high goose , the 290.8 m high Haidberg and the 136 m high porphyry rock formation Rheingrafenstein .

The protection purpose is the preservation of the area

  • because of the geological and morphological nature of natural history
  • as a habitat of rare wild plants and plant communities that are threatened in their existence and, more rarely, of threatened animal species, in particular amphibians and reptiles for scientific reasons and
  • because of its particular scenic beauty and character.
