The Roman Catholic Church of St. Gertrud is located in the Kraudorf district in the city of Geilenkirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia . It stands as a monument under monument protection .

location

The church of St. Gertrud is located in the center of the village in Kraudorf 14. The cemetery connects to the church grounds to the southeast . The rectory is in the immediate vicinity.

history

The first stone church in Kraudorf was probably a hall church from 10/11. Century. It was later expanded and received a west tower at the beginning of the 17th century . In 1860 the church was dilapidated and the service was moved to the parsonage barn . The planning for the new building came from Johannes Burkart from Aachen. The foundation stone was laid on October 17, 1867 . The west tower was retained when the new church was built. The solemn consecration took place on August 1, 1873 . In January 1945 the church tower was blown up and the church was destroyed by shell fire. In 1950/51 it was rebuilt according to the plan by architect Fritz van Well from Randerath . The altar was consecrated on April 8, 1951.

architecture

The church is a brick hall church in three bays , ribbed vaults in the wide main aisles and the narrow aisles . Behind the triumphal arch the choir yoke and five-sided choir. Church and choir have pointed arch windows . The four-storey, smooth west tower is built in front and has an eight-sided hood . On the southern wall of the choir is the sacristy vorgebaut.

Furnishing

  • The electronic organ dates from 1967 and was built by Dereux.
  • In the church tower there are bells from 1637 and 1953.
  • Font in terrazzo and copper dome from 1959.
