history

Where the church rises today, a previous building had already been built in 1603 under Abbot Joachim from the Reifenstein monastery . The consecration of this church is attested by the Erfurt auxiliary bishop Cornelius Gobelius for May 17, 1611. The cornerstone for today's neo-Gothic church was laid in 1852 . It was consecrated on May 15, 1855. In 1903 the church was rebuilt. During the renovation in 1971, the church furnishings z. T. removed. The last renovation was in 1998, when the color version was reconstructed from the construction period.

Building description

The steinsichtige from ornamental built hall church has a low, drawn-polygonal choir in the east and the sacristy in the southeast. During the renovation in 1903, the church received a porch in the west. A square ridge turret was erected on the gable roof , wearing an eight-sided pointed helmet and a small turret at each corner. The old bell that was consecrated to Marie and the two bronze bells that were consecrated to St. Joseph and St. Mother Teresa on August 21, 2016 by Auxiliary Bishop Reinhard Hauke hang in his belfry . The three bells ring in the tones c ″, d ″ and e ″, the Our Father motif. The interior , which was spanned by a wooden flat ceiling in 1964/65 , is structured by the five lead-glass windows on each long side. They were created by the Strobel workshop in Würzburg in 1939/42. They show scenes from the Old and New Testaments and various saints . The choir has a ribbed vault that rests on consoles . The three windows in the choir were made by Georg Schneider, a stained glass factory in Regensburg in 1904. The coronation of Mary is shown in the central window, to the left of it the devotion to the Heart of Jesus by St. Margaret Maria Alacoque . On the window on the right in the choir, St. Dominic receives the rosary from the Mother of God . There are also two reliefs from the former neo-Gothic high altar in the chancel. They place Jesus in the temple , as well as the scene of the station of the cross “Jesus meets his mother”. Since the last renovation, a blue enamelled cross by Erfurt artist Thomas Lindner with four rock crystals in the middle, as well as the tabernacle with the representation of the 12 gates of the new Jerusalem, have their current place in the chancel. The wall niches to the left and right of the triumphal arch were exposed and decorated with sculptures of Mary and Joseph . The painting around the triumphal arch, nine medallions with symbols from the Lauretan litany between stylized foliage , was uncovered again. A reference to the patronage of the church is the figurative representation of the Assumption of Mary on the south wall of the church. The baptismal font is from 1562. The organ with 20 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built around 1930 by Georg Kiessling & Sons.
