life and work

Cifolelli comes from an Italian family. He studied at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels (in the class of Marcel Vanaud and Pascale Devreese) and was tutored for many years by his teacher Vittorio Terranova . During his studies he was a member of the opera studio at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels . There he worked with the directors Willy Decker and Achim Freyer as well as the conductors Alessandro De Marchi , René Jacobs and Kazushi Ōno . He also took master classes with Graham Johnson , Tom Krause , Luciano Pavarotti , Vera Rózsa and Sarah Walker .

His career began with several roles in operas by Gioachino Rossini after the singer was invited by the conductor Alberto Zedda to the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro in 2011 . In four seasons at the local Rossini Festival and in a guest appearance at the Rossini Festival in Wildbad , he embodied smaller and larger roles of the bel canto composer. Step by step, Cifolelli developed a broad repertoire, particularly of French and Italian operas in his field.

In addition to Rossini roles, two Mozart roles subsequently represented important axes in his repertoire:

Stefan Cifolelli as Gandhi in Satyagraha
Komische Oper Berlin , director: Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui , stage: Henrik Ahr , costumes: Jan-Jan van Essche , lighting: Roland Edrich , conductor: Jonathan Stockhammer , October 2017

Since 2013 Cifolelli has been singing regularly at the Komische Oper in Berlin. In addition to Ferrando and Don Ottavio, he played Paris and Ferdinand from Hierling in Ödön von Horváth's Tales from the Vienna Woods , set to music by HK Gruber . This German premiere in May 2016 was followed in October 2017 by the role of Gandhi in the acclaimed Berlin premiere of Satyagraha by Philip Glass .

Cifolelli has also made guest appearances at the Landestheater Niederbayern (as Elvino and Arturo), at the Opéra de Massy and the Opéra de Reims (as Harlequin and Soldier), at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie (as Fenton and Junker Spärlich), at the Wichita Grand Opera ( as Rodolfo) and at the State Opera of Russe in Bulgaria (as Tonio and Faust). He also appeared in Sofia and several times at the Classic Openair Solothurn .

Cifonelli can also be heard in the concert hall. In 2011 he gave his first solo recital at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie. In 2012 he took over the tenor role in Beethoven's Mass in C major - at the Palais des Beaux-Arts (BOZAR) in Brussels .
