Michele Pertusi
Michele Pertusi (born January 12, 1965 in Parma ) is an Italian opera and concert singer with a bass voice .
Life
education
Pertusi studied at the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito in Parma with Mauro Uberti and obtained his diploma in singing and piano. He also took lessons from Arrigo Pola , Carlo Bergonzi and Rodolfo Celletti .
Career
In 1984, at the age of 19, Pertusi made his debut in Pisa as Count of Monterone in Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi under the direction of Bruno Bartoletti and as Don Ruy Gómez de Silva in Verdi's Ernani in Modena . At a young age he worked with leading conductors such as Daniel Barenboim , Semyon Bychkov , Riccardo Chailly , Myung-Whun Chung , Sir Colin Davis , Daniele Gatti , Carlo Maria Giulini , Wladimir Michailowitsch Jurowski , James Levine , Zubin Mehta , Sir Antonio Pappano , Riccardo Muti and Georg Solti worked together and had debuts at renowned opera houses such as the Teatro Regio in Turin , the Royal Opera House in London , the Vienna State Opera , the Opéra Bastille in Paris , the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona , the Teatro Real de Madrid , the Bavarian State Opera in Munich , the Deutsche Oper Berlin , the Brussels Opera House La Monnaie / De Munt , the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and the Metropolitan Opera in New York City .
Since 1998 he has sang regularly at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan , where he appeared in numerous productions, including in Le nozze di Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (as Conte d'Almaviva), in Mozart's Don Giovanni (in the title role), Nina, o sia la pazza per amore by Giovanni Paisiello (as Il conte) conducted by Riccardo Muti, Il turco in Italia by Gioachino Rossini (as Selim) and Rossini's La gazza ladra (as Gottardo) conducted by Riccardo Chailly and Verdi's Don Carlos ( as Filippo II) under the direction of Myung-Whun Chung.
In Italy, Michele Pertusi appeared regularly at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro , where he sang several leading roles on this stage, including in 1997 Mose in Moïse et Pharaon by Gioachino Rossini, conducted by Vladimir Michailowitsch Jurowski. He was awarded the “Rossini d'Oro” prize by the festival for his achievements. He was also regularly heard at the Festival di Torrechiara , where he performed in 1996, 1997, 1998, 2001 and 2003.
In 1995 Pertusi was awarded the Premio Franco Abbiati of the Italian music criticism. In February 2005 he received a Grammy Award for best opera recording in the title role of Verdi's Falstaff , which he recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra under Sir Colin Davis. His recording of Il turco in Italia under the direction of Riccardo Chailly for Decca received a Gramophone Award from the British music magazine Gramophone . He was also awarded a Medaglie ai Benemeriti della cultura e dell'arte (Benmeritus Gold Medal) by the President of the Italian Republic .
In the 2013/2014 opera season, Pertusi appeared on the following stages, among others: at the Salzburg Festival (as Oroveso in Norma by Vincenzo Bellini ), the Opéra Royal de Wallonie (as Attila in the opera of the same name by Giuseppe Verdi), and the Teatro Regio di Torino (as Jacopo Fiesco in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra ), the Opéra National de Paris (as Sir Giorgio in Vincenzo Bellini's I puritani ), the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona (as Il conte Rodolfo in Bellini's La sonnambula ), the Metropolitan Opera ( as Il conte Rodolfo in La sonnambula and as Sir Giorgio in I puritani ) and the Milan Scala (as Don Alfonso in Mozart's Così fan tutte ).
In the 2014/2015 opera season he was Padre Guardiano in Verdi's La forza del destino (at the Teatro Regio di Parma ), Assur in Semiramide by Gioachino Rossini (at the Opéra de Lyon and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris ), the Alidoro in Rossini's La Cenerentola (at the Vienna State Opera ), Giorgio Talbot in Maria Stuarda by Gaetano Donizetti (at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona ), the Don Pasquale in Donizetti's opera of the same name (at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia and the Vienna State Opera) and again the Oroveso at the Salzburg Festival.
During the 2015/2016 opera season he played in L'elisir d'amore at La Scala in Milan, in Rigoletto , Don Pasquale and La Cenerentola at the Vienna State Opera, in Zelmira at the Opéra de Lyon , and in Maria Stuarda at the Opera d'Avignon , in Simon Boccanegra at the Hong Kong Arts Festival , I puritani at the Zurich Opera House and Norma at the Savonlinna Opera Festival . He was also heard in the following vocal works this season: Stabat Mater by Rossini in Turin , Bergamo and Paris, Messa da Requiem by Verdi in Milan and Paris, 9th Symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Mass No. 6 E flat major by Franz Schubert at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples .
Pertusi opened the 2016/2017 opera season at the Festival Verdi 2016 in the Teatro Regio di Parma in the role of Philip II in Verdi's Don Carlos . He later sang Giuseppe Verdi's Messa da Requiem with the London Symphony Orchestra in London and Barcelona, Bellinis Norma at the Teatro Real de Madrid , Rossini's La Cenerentola and Donizetti's Don Pasquale at the Vienna State Opera, Bellinis I puritani at the Zurich Opera, Verdis Ernani at the Théâtre du Capitole , Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore at the State Sacharia Paliaschwili Theater for Opera and Ballet in Tbilisi and Verdi's Don Carlos and Rossini's La gazza ladra at La Scala in Milan.
Michele Pertusi can be heard on records at the music labels Deutsche Grammophon , Philips, Erato, Sony, Decca, Mondo Musicale and Ricordi. He recorded his recording of Selim in Il turco in Italia by Gioachino Rossini with the conductor Riccardo Chailly, with whom he was already successful in the same work at La Scala in Milan. In another leading role, the title role in Rossini's Moïse et Pharaon , he can be heard on a CD from a live performance, as well as in the title role in Rossini's Maometto II , which comes from the stage in Pesaro. In 2012 he appeared on television in the role of Mustafà in L'Italiana in Algeri by Gioachino Rossini, conducted by Paolo Olmi at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and broadcast on Rai 3 in 2013 and Rai 5 in 2014 and 2016 .
