Francesco Meli

Francesco Meli (born May 15, 1980 in Genoa ) is an Italian opera singer ( tenor ) who specializes in bel canto.
Life
Meli began his vocal training at the age of 17 with Norma Palacios at the “Niccolò Paganini” Conservatory in his hometown, after which he studied with Franca Mattiucci and Vittorio Terranova . In 2002 he made his debut in Verdi's Macbeth at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto and subsequently sang at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna in Bologna, at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, on Zurich Opera House , at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona and at the Teatro Regio di Torino in Turin.
Scala, London, Paris, Met, Vienna State Opera
The young tenor was quickly engaged by almost all of Italy's major opera houses. The Chevalier de la Force in Francis Poulenc's rarely performed opera Dialogues des Carmélites under the direction of Riccardo Muti and with Anja Silja in 2004 at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan is considered to be Meli's breakthrough on the international opera scene . In this production he was also seen and heard at the Teatro Regio di Torino and the Royal Opera House in London, at the Opéra National de Lyon and at the Zurich Opera House, as well as at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro . Long-term collaboration also connects the singer with the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. He sang at this house a. a. the Ubaldo in Pia de 'Tolomei , the Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor and the Manrico in the Trovatore . In Pesaro and Tokyo he played Paolo Erisso in Rossini's seldom played Maometto secondo . At the Teatro Regio di Torino in 2009 he was able to achieve great personal success as Ernesto in Don Pasquale - with his wife Serena Gamberoni as Norina. In 2013 he made his debut as Alfredo at the Muscat Opera in the Sultanate of Oman and sang the title role in Verdi's Ernani for the first time at the Roman Opera .
Salzburg Festival
In 2013 the singer made his successful debut at the Salzburg Festival : he took on - each in concert performances on Giuseppe Verdi's 200th birthday - the Ismaele in Nabucco (with choir and orchestra of the Opera di Roma under Riccardo Muti) and Carlo VII in Giovanna d ' Arco at the side of Anna Netrebko and Plácido Domingo .
In the summer of 2014 Meli sang Manrico in a new production of Il trovatore (staged by Alvis Hermanis , conductor Daniele Gatti , other roles: Anna Netrebko and Plácido Domingo), this production was also broadcast live on television.
2017 Meli sang in 2017 in Aida the Radamès on the side of Anna Netrebko.
In the concert hall
On the concert podium Meli u. a. to be heard in Spoleto and Pesaro with the tenor solos from Rossini's Petite Messe solennelle and Puccini's Messa . Meli is married to the soprano Serena Gamberoni and the couple have three children. The two sang together in the following operas: L'elisir d'amore , Don Pasquale , Werther , Così fan tutte , La Bohème , Gianni Schicchi , Un ballo in maschera .
