Career

Stephan Retzer played for EV Landshut in the junior Bundesliga from 1992 to 1994 . As early as the 1993/94 season , the left-handed shooter was used for the first time for the professional EVL team, for which he was a regular player in the newly founded DEL from the following season . In 1994/95 the defender was runner-up with the team when they lost the final of the play-offs against the Kölner Haie . In 1996 Retzer moved to the second-class first division for TSV Erding . After he was relegated to the league with Bayern in 1999 and was promoted again the next year, Retzer finally moved back to the DEL for the 2001/02 season , where he signed a contract with the Kassel Huskies .

The defender reached the finals twice with the Hessen team, but in 2005 he was relegated with the team. Before the huskies remained in the league after EHC Wolfsburg's license revocation, Retzer had already signed a contract with Adler Mannheim . With his new team, the defender missed the play-offs in the 2005/06 season , but won the German championship with the Eagles the following year . For the 2007/08 season , Retzer moved to league rivals Hamburg Freezers .

In April 2010 he was hired by ERC Ingolstadt , for which he was active until 2012 and during this time he completed his 700 DEL game. He then ended his career in summer 2012 and has been a physiotherapist at ERCI since July 2013.

This was followed by further assignments for the junior team at the EM in 1994 and the World Championships in 1994 and 1995 . In 2003 the defender was part of the senior national team for the first time at the World Cup .
