Auf Liebe und Tod is a German television film by Peter Kahane from 2003. It is the twenty-third contribution to the ZDF crime film series Stubbe - From Case to Case with Wolfgang Stumph in the title role, who this time has to cope with a severe blow of fate.
action
Commissioner Wilfried Stubbe and his colleague Bernd Zimmermann are investigating the drug scene in Hamburg, because the dealer Sven Mühl is found stabbed to death. The victim lived in a flat share with Tom, Eyck and Kater and was addicted to sex and drugs. But the roommates obviously also have drug problems. That is why the cat Förster recently moved out of the flat and, at the insistence of her parents, has started a withdrawal . For the investigators, the solution to their case rests with the victim's roommates. Both boys unintentionally stress each other and Zimmermann suspects an internal argument, possibly over hangovers and drugs. To the displeasure of Kater's parents, who had been looking for their daughter for over a year and did not know where she lived, she recently got back in touch with Eyck. But not only because she breaks off her therapy, hides with Eyck and her parents don't know where she is, she threatens to relapse again. Stubbe learns from Kater's former roommate at the therapy center that Harald Förster was overconcerned for his daughter and allegedly hated everyone who had thrown Kater into misery. This seems to be a very serious motive for the murder of the inspector, but when they want to visit him at home, they learn from his wife that Förster is threatened by Eyck. This fear is supported by a phone call from Katers who expresses concern that Eyck would harm her father. However, he had no intention of doing this, but he is now seriously threatened by Förster. When the police are led by Kater to their hiding place, Kater and Stubbe can talk to Harald Förster and convince him to give up, which he does. Worrying about his daughter, Förster almost became a murderer again.
Subplot
In his private life, Stubbe is also worried about his daughter. She introduced him to Alex, her new boyfriend, and there was immediate tension between the two men, so Christiane moved in with Alex and left her parents' apartment. But that's not all, Wilfried's wife Caroline gave him a scare when she was hit by a car. Unreasonably, she does not remain in medical care, but can be discharged from the clinic on the same day at her own request. Although she seems to be doing well, the next day she collapses from an embolism and dies. In view of this exceptional emotional situation, Christiane cannot manage to leave her father alone and temporarily moves back.

Reviews
For the critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm , this stub was "just a case for stub (b) enhocker". They complained that “neither action nor charismatic villains brought tension into the game”, although Wolfgang Stumph came across as “sympathetic”. They only gave a medium rating to Love and Death by pointing to the side with their thumbs.
