In den Nebel is a German television film by Peter Kahane from 2009. It is the thirty-seventh film in the ZDF crime film series Stubbe - Von Fall zu Fall with Wolfgang Stumph in the title role.

action

Inspector Stubbe and his colleague Zimmermann investigate the murder of the pensioner Justus Trautmann. During the investigation, they are dependent on statements from their wife Annegret Trautmann, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease and which makes questioning the inspectors difficult.

The investigators suspect a burglar, but almost as expected, Annegret Trautmann cannot remember anything. You had to look for it first because it wandered aimlessly through the city. Since she had blood on her shoes, she must have been with her husband at the time of the crime. Commissioner Zimmermann believes it is entirely possible that Annegret Trautmann could have stabbed her husband to death despite or because of her illness. Nevertheless, Stubbe and Zimmermann investigate in all directions, question friends and relatives and check their alibis. It is becoming increasingly clear that there were tensions within the family. The son had to continue running his father's car dealership, although he actually had other plans with his family. Now he takes care of his sick mother together with his wife and son. They notice how difficult this is and how overwhelmed they are with the sole care.

In the meantime, there are indications that incriminate the victim's grandson. When his mother finds out about this, Ina Trautmann breaks her silence and speaks to Stubbe. She would have seen her mother-in-law a lot lately. She had just found old photos and hoped that Annegret could use them to remember the past. Since there was also a photo of a good old friend that she actually remembered, it would have made her husband angry. He accused his wife of remembering her old lover, but not his own deceased daughter. Jupiter would have been so upset and since he had always been prone to tantrums, he finally attacked his wife and choked her. To end this, Ina Trautmann grabbed a knife and stabbed it. She would then have confided in her son, who would have come up with the idea of the fictitious break-in.

Subplot

Christiane Stubbe started a job with the Hamburger Zeitung and now wants to prove her legal skills there. However, she can rarely please her new boss. To do this, she met the photographer Helge Kleinert, who at first got on her nerves.

Charlotte worries the stubbes a bit too, because she just booked such an expensive trip. But she explains this because she wanted to take this trip while her husband was alive, but it never happened. Wilfried then surprises Charlotte with a second ticket and wants to accompany her.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach.tv said: “The episode 'In den Nebel' is an investigative thriller in which the topic sets the tone. The human understanding investigates into a fragile network of relationships. "However," the criminal energy of the film [...] remains manageable "and" the social and family-political relevance is [somewhat] in the foreground. "So the film can nevertheless" work, because Wolfgang Stumph plays his Stubbe as cautiously as such a story demands. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm was In den Nebel a “remarkable, subtly staged case about dealing with dementia sufferers” and then briefly summarized: “Tragic, emotional and stirring” and gave the film the best possible rating (thumbs up).

Fabian Riedner from Oddsmeter.de said: “The new crime film is not bad, Wilfried Stubbe and Bernd Zimmermann determine confidently. Right from the start, the facts are discussed and analyzed again and again, which then leads to new steps. The actors in German productions often wander around the area for around 75 minutes until a character looks at the files and closes the case. This is - thank God - not the case here. "
